Genealogical research in the Caribbean – help is now at hand
20/01/2010
Louise Daubeny, Consultant, Title Research
Are you dealing with an estate that requires genealogical research in the Caribbean? Help is at hand. Genealogical research and the Caribbean haven’t always got along well together; particularly in Jamaica, for example, where obtaining certificates of birth, marriage and death has been fraught with delay, unresponsiveness and demands for impossible details (such as cause of death!).
We have some good news: we work with a trusted research partner with an extensive network of contacts throughout the Caribbean islands, and can achieve results that open up that formerly tricky part of the world for many troublesome probate cases.
By way of example, we recently succeeded in obtaining a death certificate from Barbados, along with a newspaper death notice and burial certificate for one of our clients. The research was not straightforward, but the successful outcome – a happy client, able to advance distribution of their estate – was worth the time and effort involved.
Do you have old files with an outstanding element that may require research in Jamaica, Antigua, Dominica, Montserrat, St Martin, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, St Vincent or St Nevis and St Kitts? If so, why not get in touch? Perhaps you have more recently deceased clients with family in the Caribbean.
We’d be happy to provide a free, no-obligation assessment and cost proposal – or just an opinion as to feasibility. For an informal discussion, call us on 020 7332 9090 or email us at
